Emergency Peak Season Surcharge for export shipments from China

Dear customer,

Due to recent unexpected and very significant increases in key factors impacting shipping operational costs, Maersk Line is implementing an emergency charge globally.

For exports from China[1], we will introduce an emergency Peak Season Surcharge (PSS). The surcharge will apply to all export shipments on all trades from China, and it will be effective 1st June 2018 and until further notice. For export shipments to the US and Puerto Rico, the emergency PSS will be effective 1st July and until further notice. The emergency PSS will also apply to trades that already have a PSS.

This is a necessary action to ensure a continued sustainable service to our customers. The emergency charge level will be reviewed as and when significant increase or reduction of key shipping cost elements occurs. We kindly ask for your understanding and support.

For your reference, we have also included the levels and the rate structure for some sample corridors to/from Europe valid from today until further notice. These charges may be subject to change in the future but we will make sure to notify you accordingly.

Please note, the above rates are also subject to other applicable surcharges, including local charges and contingency charges.

The mentioned surcharge acronyms mean: OF (Ocean Freight), OHC (Origin Terminal Handling Charge), DHC (Destination Terminal Handling Charge), ERS (Emergency Risk Surcharge), SBF (Standard Bunker Adjustment Factor), LSS (Low Sulphur Surcharge) and PSS (Peak Season Surcharge).

These rates are unaffected by, and do not affect, any tariff notified, published or filed in accordance with local regulatory requirements.

For trades subject to the US Shipping Act or the China Maritime Regulations, quotations or surcharges that vary from the Maersk Line tariff shall not be binding on Maersk Line unless included in a service contract or service contract amendment that has been filed with the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) or the Shanghai Shipping Exchange (SSE), as applicable.

If you have any further question, please feel free to reach out to our local sales or customer service representative. You can find an updated contact list of our offices on maerskline.com

Sincerely,

Maersk Line

[1] This PSS will apply to exports from Mainland China, whereas Hong Kong and Taiwan are excluded.
